Where can we BUY a T-shirt??

I want one!!

Congrats GunsNThings! It

Congrats GunsNThings! It sounds like you more than earned it :)
lol yeah, I can relate - it's has indeed been STRESSFUL - I can't remember the last time I put this much time and energy into something.. Like you said though, it's cool that we were able to win some prizes AND do a lot of good for the site at the same time.

I'm not sure, but it looks like my referrals ended up not getting counted though...I usually don't get invested in this kind of stuff, but after spending almost 2 months finding deals, posting deals and referring people to 'em, I gotta admit I'm beyond bummed.. especially since I actually thought I'd won ha..

Glad to see a decent guy won it though :), also really glad to hear that you genuinely earned it.. there are a lot of "not-decent" people around these days, so it's always nice to see something good happen for somebody that deserves it.

Enjoy the pistol AND the bragging rights :D

Thanks! It wasn't easy, but

Thanks!

It wasn't easy, but it was definitely worth it. Its always fun being rewarded for something that you enjoy doing.

I love what these guys have put together in terms of the site and I'll be more than willing to participate in future promotions/contests/etc to help get them the exposure they need. I've already recommended bumper stickers ;)

Rest assured, I will proudly wear my slickguns.com T-shirt everywhere and just maybe occasionally show off my prized pistol ;)

Thanks again

This has been a long contest

This has been a long contest :).. I couldn't even guess how much time I've spent on this contest lol - could have earned enough money to BUY a gun if I'd spent it working heh.. I doubt I'm the only one though, I think there're a couple of us who probably spent more time than we should have :)

Looks like it's been pretty successful too!

You know...I was just

You know...I was just thinking the same thing. I've spent COUNTLESS hours..Its really been like a second job. Rest assured the last several weeks of my life have been devoted to slickguns! To be honest, I'm rather exhausted. I'll actually be glad when its over :-p
The prize will be nice, but bragging rights that I actually won a contest will be nice too!

"could have earned enough money to BUY a gun if I'd spent it working" - I feel you there!

I'm really glad we could help out the site though and have a good time doing it.

Agreed, I see an actual deal

Agreed, I see an actual deal about every 2-4 weeks. Most the the time the "deals" show the average going rate or just a bit better. It must be dealers listing them. I doubt anyone else would spend the time to list a Non-deal.

And the rating system must be getting mis-used. The stars are to rate the deal not the item itself...correct?

2-4 weeks? Hmm... there've

2-4 weeks? Hmm... there've been some good deals at SOSS recently (and one secret item that isn't showing up on their catalog at the moment), Botach's deal on their pistols recently easily made my month, the .40 S&W ammo I nabbed yesterday from Cabela was great (the .223 Remington UMC was pretty good too), and there've been some other nice deals.

As far as insanely slick deals go, I'm not so sure how many of those we'll see - we're coming off a transition period from last fall/winter where there were some AMAZING deals (of course I was broke at the time) and now not only is it back to "normal" but demand has shot through the roof thanks to election year nonsense.

Still, I do agree about the lesser deals needing to be offloaded somewhere but I'm sure that'll come in time.

As for the rating system, it's easily skewed - if the person who posts the deal rates it 5 stars it will show up as 5 stars because it only has one vote. If another person comes along and votes it a 1 star, it'll drop to 3 (average of 5 and 1). The more folks who vote on a deal the better the average gets - at least that's how it's supposed to work. I personally downvote SOME deals only when they're an incredibly terrible product or they're ludicrously priced - see some of my comments on the custom 1911s that cost a month or two of rent.

Good deals are now FEW and

Good deals are now FEW and far between since this started, everything gets posted good deal or not.

Couldnt agree more! Dealers

Couldnt agree more! Dealers should NEVER have been alowed to post here.

Well, we DO want dealers to

Well, we DO want dealers to be able to share legitimately awesome deals with us (and give us nice coupons/discounts) but I'm starting to think there should be a "dealer liaison" to handle this stuff. Wouldn't be too difficult with a rule change or two:

1) Dealer MUST Google search + check this site to make sure they're actually offering a good deal first. If this simple rule isn't followed it could result in loss of privileges for a week/month/whatever.

Once that's done, the dealer decides whether the deal is HOT or just good.

2a) If it's HOT and he's (she's?) sure, he can go ahead and post it here, but this is limited to a max of three (or five, or however many the admins/mods agree on) deals per week. (Of course the dealer liason/mods/admins could make allowances as needed.)

2b) If it's just a run-of-the-mill deal (thresholds could be decided upon by mods/admins and discussed w/the liaison) the dealer could submit it to the liaison, who would use his (her?) individual judgment (and advanced Google Fu, I hope) to decide whether or not to post it here.

3) As an alternate option, dealers could post deals to their own pages. They wouldn't show up on the MAIN feed by default but they could be promoted there if a mod/admin felt like it. I reckon this could be accomplished by (automatically?) applying something like an "Expired" tag to the deal (but it'd be more of a "Limited/Dealer page only/whatever" tag). This could also be useful for problematic dealers (*cough*the dealer with the most referrals in this contest so far*cough*) - they would get the chance to post some REAL deals on their page and have the possibility of them being seen and promoted (and maybe get their posting privileges restored).

There are plenty of ways to solve this problem; these are just a few. I'm sure the ever-watchful mods/admins are hatching up a plan of their own to combat this menace. Won't be this way forever, folks!

lol Quade, thanks for your

lol Quade, thanks for your input. I was more hoping that our rating system would take care of the "bad deals" but it seems like that not enough people are rating these deals. Couple months back, we created a page "Most Popular", the second tab on top, next to all deals (home page). http://slickguns.com/popular

This is kind of a "editors choice" page, and we base our picks on the popularity of the product, rating, low price, merchant....

I tried to include all the best deals from most merchants, where price is significantly lower than other offers on the market. Please take a look and let me know if there is something you would like to add or remove from the list.

This page is mainly intended for new users or users that don't frequently browse our website, so that they don't have to waist a whole lot of time to find the best deals.

Dunno if it's just me but I

Dunno if it's just me but I don't think dealers should be allowed to participate in this contest.

lol Queda: Are dealers

lol Queda: Are dealers seriously participating? Or were you just saying they shouldn't?

Last I checked at least two

Last I checked at least two of 'em were listed in the running totals... unsurprisingly, RealDealGuns was leading the pack. Dunno if the admins/mods will "filter" the eligibility for the drawing or not but I just had to wave my WTF flag when I noticed.

"Registered dealers can

"Registered dealers can participate, but will not receive any prizes." So if a dealer wins, second place will receive the handgun or any other prize...

Always helps to read the

Always helps to read the rules, huh? I didn't think you guys'd leave a loophole like that in anyway. =)

Why not? They seem to be

Why not? They seem to be taking over the traffic slowly but surely. The least we can do is let them bring new guests (and employes) in to talk about how great they are and help them keep that 5-star (Real Deal Guns) rating.

I still check the posts a few times a day, but it sure isn't as enjoyable as it used to be.

I follow Slickguns almost

I follow Slickguns almost every day. They keep me up to date on whats out there. Great work fellers.

Glad they did that - that

Glad they did that - that *should* help discourage people from cheating.. lol you know how people are though.
I'm really glad to see the proof requirement too.

As much as I'd love to win I've accepted the fact that I probably won't :).. but if I do lose I'd much rather get beat by another guy/(GAL) who cares about how the site does, and somebody who's gonna _appreciate_ the reward.. not some guy with access to a complex botnet or something like that, who just wants a free gun heh.

Either way though, the reward is a great idea.. Plus it makes not feel so bad about spending so much time at SG lol

Hey! This great. I need one. Please send it. Email me and I will send my FFL.

So how'd that work out for

So how'd that work out for ya? Have they sent it yet?

Dunno what gunsnthings is

Dunno what gunsnthings is doin but he is about to pass and smash me.

So how has this worked out

So how has this worked out for you guys so far? Have you seen a significant spike in traffic?

By my (very rough) estimate of the top few people plus my uncounted referrals, you've had to have gotten at somewhere in the neighborhood of 5,000 UNIQUE visitors in the past 12 hours :)

That's awesome. You guys are gonna have to let us know how this works out, I'm sure the regulars are gonna be interested to see how much of an impact we had. Glad to see it's working out so well though.
(It's also nice to get a stab at prizes for something most of us were doing already to being with heh)

My facebook is plastered with

My facebook is plastered with deals that my buddies might be interested in. Been doin in all day. Only 49 days left haha.

According to our Analytics,

According to our Analytics, DoctorChops you would be second with only hundred or two hundred referrals short from the first place. 95% percent of your referrals were new visitors to our site, great job, thanks a lot.

That's great man.. I realized

That's great man.. I realized I probably didn't have a chance of winning anything after I took at the scoreboard for the first time heh, but I'm still gonna to do what I can for you guys the next couple of months.
I've been coming here on pretty much a daily basis since not too long after I found the place, so it's cool to see you guys are finally having a "grand opening," I haven't actually checked the numbers lately, but in theory this promo is gonna be damn successful :)

(I was actually [ed: PLANNING on] working on putting together a firearm/outdoors community dealsite when I found this one, since there really weren't any at the time.. if I remember right that's how I found this website lol: when I was checking out possible domain names.)

Why did the promotion code

Why did the promotion code change?

It change again, this time no

It change again, this time no additional pictures or information???

Climbing this ladder isn't

Climbing this ladder isn't easy to say the least.

Wow.. stylelife is jumping

Wow.. stylelife is jumping like 50 points every few minutes lol, that's pretty impressive. Not sure many people are going to be able to compete with that.. hell, I know popular websites that couldn't compete with that.

Went from 82 to 164 in like 15 minutes lol

Yeah I jumped on facebook and

Yeah I jumped on facebook and pleaded with my 500 or so buddies. Some also posted on their site to "Help XXXX (my name) by checking this site out for him!" Too bad someone else has a large amount of friends, the dude in first place wasnt on the chart and then 6 hours later he is in first haha. Good way to get lots of traffic to slickguns.com thats for sure!

Haha cool.. yeah, at first I

Haha cool.. yeah, at first I figured you were probably using some bots/nets or TOR.. lol - I was just figuring somebody would cheat from the jump.. I was watching the counter last night and it was going up at almost the exact same rate heh.. and it was doing it all night, so that's why I got a little suspicious.
I got to thinking about it too, and with a competition like this, I'm sure they've got analytics set up so they can tell who's cheating and who's getting them legit referrals.. I seriously doubt they wanna give prizes to people who aren't sending them any _real_ traffic lol

That's cool you have friends helping though, I just saw it's a 50 day long competition though.. that's LONG. Pretty luck getting that many friends to click what probably looks like spam lol, I'll be really impressed if you can get half of 'em. It'll help having a few friends help ya, but that'll be even tougher trying to get people you don't know to click a link for a stranger haha..

Still though, if you could even get half of your friends, that's 250 right there.. good luck :)

Awesome :D.. I come here

Awesome :D.. I come here multiple times a day anyways and refer gawdknows how many people, I think it's worth taking a stab at.
Too bad it's not for comments.. the only other guy I see comment very much is lol Qaeda.. who coincidentally already posted on this heh

I'll probably end up getting beat out by some guy with a spam bot or something though lol

Its really not hard to get

Its really not hard to get people to check out deals from facebook. If you can get a buddy to tell another buddy to post on another buddies wall it increases pretty rapidly. Also there are some pretty badass deals on here so its not hard to get peoples attention

Looks like there are gonna be

Looks like there are gonna be some happy somebodies at the end of this month! =D

I'm not big on the tracked referrals thing myself but I will definitely be pimping this site out to the folks I know - goes hand-in-hand with my newfound firearm evangelism in general, lol!

Excellent idea... I see great things in store for this site.

ive been sharing posts from

ive been sharing posts from this site on my facebook for like a year now. can those count???????
even though i havent had an account??

This isn't a "problem", more

This isn't a "problem", more like a request/question/suggestion.

Would you guys be willing to run a "product discussion" tab?

It could be a place to discuss equipment suggestions where users could get input and suggestions on items they are interested in buying. It would also allow users to post deals we find on any specific gear other users are in the market for (not as individual deal posts, but in conversations on that particular item discussion).

Just a suggestion. It's about the ONLY thing I wish this site had, everything else is looking great!

Sorry, I submitted this under

Sorry, I submitted this under the "submit a problem" button....I guess it posts to whatever page you submit it under.

No problem. I have to delete

No problem. I have to delete and correct those problem reports so I changed this one into a comment. I was thinking about starting a simple forum, where we could discuss all other matters, site related, dealer pricing, import regulations and so on.

"Like" :)

"Like" :)

That's kinda funny.. I've

That's kinda funny.. I've been going to get ahold of ya for awhile now and suggest that - I was trying to find some contact info like yesterday or the day before. I guess comments section woulda worked. A basic notification system would be really nice too (maybe internal or via e-mail) - it's pretty hard to hold a conversation as it is now - if somebody responds to you, you don't know about it unless check.

On top of being pretty damn helpful, it's something that'd really encourage return visits.

lol great minds, right?
