Description:
Century once again offers you rare examples of Sino-Soviet cooperation from a bygone era! The Type 53 is a copy of the famous Russian M44 carbine, and like its predecessor is chambered in 7.62x54R. We were able to locate a cache of these carbines where they have been preserved for decades just waiting to be re-issued. Needless to say - these won't be around forever. If you are a collector of Mosin-Nagants, this is a fantastic opportunity to add a hard-to-find carbine to your collection. 5 rd. integral mag. Barrel: 20.25", Overall: 40", Weight: 9 lbs. Condition: Good. Be advised these are surplus guns from Century so conditions will vary and we do NOT open boxes and inspect guns ! |

I bought one of these and am currently in the process of refinishing it. It was in similar condition as others have described. It's looking really good now but it took a lot of time and work to get there. If you like restoring firearms then this is a good project. I wouldn't buy this if you're just looking to save $130 vs. buying an M44. The amount of time and cost of supplies (if you don't already have them) will probably cancel out any savings. Of course if you just want a cheap carbine to shoot and don't care how it looks then buy this one, clean the cosmoline and mud (yes, mine had mud in the mag), and check the head space.. done. Definitely makes for a good conversation piece.
Mine has a "good
Mine has a "good personality."
This thing is UNBELIEVABLY f*cked up lol. The stock looks like it was used as a door stop in a coal mine. A wet coal mine..
I don't have high standards by any means but this thing is pretty damn far from "good" condition lol.. and aside from the rust and pitting it almost feeds/chambers a round every time! (When the bolt closes that is)
The only upshot is the bbl and receiver seem to be in good condition.. so now all I need is everything else :)..
Here's a picture of mine (My 91/30 on top.. Type 53 on bottom)

My two arrived in much the same condition...
I have a Boyd's stock on order for one & will set the other up with an Archangel once they become available. For $120, it was worth it to me.
Yours looks better than mine.
Yours looks better than mine.
As I'm cleaning it, I think there's some potential there however. But the stock is beyond crap condition. I'm gonna refinish it, one way or the next, but the *chunks* torn out of it are beyond repair.
The metal seems good, all said. Weird.

Stock is a little rough, but the rifling is good and zero rust
So what's the verdict on
So what's the verdict on these? For $119 shipped you can't go wrong right? If the stock is in too bad shape is it replaceable?
I bought 1 about a month
I bought 1 about a month ago,,stock was rough,,but the gun was in good shape,,took me a whole day to clean it though,,,done put it on a ATI stock,,an mounted a scope,,GOOD HOG GUN,,or demacrats,,
I've got one of mine worked
I've got one of mine worked over. Put it in a Boyd's stock, altered rear sight for a peep aperture, turned the bolt, and Duracoated the metal. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8366/8575488936_e4087372f1_b.jpg

Be aware that the probability
Be aware that the probability of these rifles being rough and ugly is pretty high. I received 3 last week, all of them were well abused. Metal appears in acceptable shape but the stocks are utterly hammered. One was missing a rear guard screw.

Will buds ship to a c&r
Will buds ship to a c&r license holder? I thought one of the big online stores wouldn't. Maybe it was ctd? Doesn't matter about them though because they won't be getting a dime of my money.
this seems like a good price
this seems like a good price with free shipping however I'm not sure what do they mean by "consignment gun"? Can I order this just like any other firearm from their website? I don't mind waiting couple extra days?

We ordered 5 from Century,
We ordered 5 from Century, and the best one of the lot could be described as "In absolutely terrible condition".
The metal looks okay but the wood is pure throw away grade. Figure on buying a $60-100 stock for your $90 prize unless you want to be embarrassed every time you take it out of the case.
Here's a pic of the lot we got:
