I'm also new to the science of ammo. Does anyone have experience with these bullets? Good for Self Defense? Since they are Hollow Points I doubt I can get them in MA.

I'm not aware of a Hollow Point ban in your state.

These are great for self defense. MtnMan is correct that this is an "older" tech self-defense ammo.
Compared to the "new" stuff, the price is great! Most self-defense ammo comes in 25 round boxes for double the price.

They're an older generation hollow point design, which means less reliable expansion, particularly after passing through clothing. Speer Gold Dot, Federal HST, Winchester PDX, and others are all newer and better choices.

No, you bought the 100rnd Federal Champion 115gr FMJ for $20 plus tax. That's what they sell at Walmart at least. These are 147gr jacketed hollow point rounds. Ones used for range ammo, and the other for HD/SD.

No worries! I'm a noob as well! Just really love this new hobby of mine and have been researching everything I can. I can never find those 100rnd federal boxes for $20 at walmart. They only always have the 50pk for ~$13. You're lucky, haha. When shopping, anything under .20 cents a round for 9mm range ammo should be looked at as a good deal imo. You can try freedom munitions the online site. They sell blaster series ammo in bulk. Like $180ish for 1000 rounds.

I burn about 500rnds everytime I go to the range so I'm looking at a .22lr pistol now. Ruger Markiii to be exact ;). I need to try these hydrashocks out. I use gold dots for my HD ammo. Great deal on these since my gold dots in store costs roughly 1.10 a round. Yikes.
