Does anybody know how the

Does anybody know how the warranty works with the police trade M&P's?

I bought a 3rd generation 4003 police trade and the frame cracked on the 2nd range trip and S&W said no warranty on a used gun. They knew it was used because it was bought as a police gun and registered as such.

Ouch. So why on earth would you be willing to try it again?

It's not even a deal anyway.

Buy new, these go on sale for $520 and less all the time.

I am not really wanting to

I am not really wanting to gamble and try it again unless I know they have a warranty.
I agree that if they sell as cheap as you said I should just buy new and not worry about the question of having a warranty or not.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, if this price was to

Yes, if this price was to come down to $400 I'd buy one, but it's just too high for a buy back.

Could you provide a link to

Could you provide a link to that deal? I am having trouble locating it. Oh, and I agree with everyone else above. I briefly entertained the same dilemma. Obtained a 1911 and I am very happy with it (STI Spartan). But I ultimately ended up going back for the M&P 45. Additionally I have the M&P 9pro, the 9Vtac, the shield, Both body guards, two m&p ARs (the 15T and the Magpul branded edition) and two smith revolvers... I am a true S&W fan.

If I were to only get one .45

If I were to only get one .45 for my collection, and I didn't intend to use it for defense, would a modern striker pistol like the M&P/XD/Glock/SIG/H&K be a good buy, or is the feel of a quality 1911 model the epitome of .45 ACP? This is in regards to the enjoyment of shooting one, not the value/self-defense/reliability aspect.

Striker pistols are for real

Striker pistols are for real world use, where reliability, capacity, and ease of use can mean life or death.

1911's are 100-year old range toys that become more accurate the more $$ you spend, and both are near limitless.

Sounds like you want the later. Go for it.

the 1911 has been killing

the 1911 has been killing communists, nazis and muslim terrorists for over 100 years. If you think it's just a range toy i'd suggest pulling your head out of your third point of contact

Best bet is to go to a range

Best bet is to go to a range that rents them. My wife just bought this gun new, the model that adds the manual thumb safety. We went through a dozen gun rentals including a HK45, a 5" Springfield 1911, and the 4.5" M&P 45. She and I both liked the M&P 45 the best of the 45's she shot. She actually like the M&P 45 best of all the guns she shot, including a bunch of 9's. It's a fantastic gun and it really is incredible how well it does at taming the recoil of the 45 and making it feel like it isn't a 45. That's two opinions on the enjoyment of shooting one.

As for the epitome of a .45 ACP, I'd say the 1911 is it. It's an amazing design with a ton of history and sexy looks. You may LIKE shooting it more based on that alone, especially if you find a used one with some history behind it or get a special edition 1911. The 1911 is a platform that probably has the highest number of folks who have fallen in love with it and won't shoot anything else. Even though I enjoy shooting the M&P more than any 1911 I've shot, I will eventually own a nice 1911 because I just love the gun.

Ultimately, you need to rent it and find out what you want to put in your case.

PS - I am not aware that Sig makes a striker fired gun but certainly look at the P220. Not as much history or as revolutionary as the 1911, but it's reputation is outstanding and deserves equal consideration as anything on your list and is a hammer gun, not striker.

Gosh, you're asking for a

Gosh, you're asking for a debate between 1911 lovers and striker fire folks. I've had and shot both and they're both as accurate as the shooter and both have reliability. However, from a "feel in the hand" and "enjoyment", for me, a 1911 wins hands down.

That's pretty much what I was

That's pretty much what I was looking for. It makes a better toy.

buy a striker fire, forget you've ever heard of a 1911. Your wallet will thank you. However, with a name like Nytehawk, perhaps you deserve one of these: http://www.nighthawkcustom.com/pistols/dominator.html

Looking at that, I felt a connection, and then I scrolled down and got chills. $3,250.00? I mean, it's beautiful, but that's a mistake I would regret the rest of my life.

Like marrying 2001 Britney Spears, only to find out what she will become.

Nytehawk, If you want to get

Nytehawk,
If you want to get into a well rated 1911 for cheap - give the Tisas a try. Forums rate it well. Will have the same feel as anyone else's. And you can always do a few minimal upgrades and enjoy the hell out of it.

That said, I have a S&W 1911 that has 10 years on it, and nothing aftermarket on the insides - and it has never misfired or misfeed. Zero malfunctions in probably 8-10k rounds. Anything over $1000 is so you can tell your friends how sexy your pistol is. Of course there are probably some exceptions, but buy a cheap one, shoot, clean, repeat.
