A few observations and
A few observations and comments from my purchase of this gun when it was $540 - now down to $522 even a better bargain.
First off; grabagun service and delivery were first rate. Awesome job grabagun!
Upon receipt of R200S, cleaned up the gun and noticed that many of the parts are MIM (not the best, but okay) but the finish on them was sub-par with a lot of flash and machine marks visible. Took the R200S to the range along with 200 rounds total; 100 rounds 230 gr RN Win White Box, 50 230 gr JHP Federal, and 50 230 gr Remington RN. I started out shooting 25 feet using the Win ammo; nice accuracy, but a lot of fail to feed stops. After 14 rounds, swapped magazines to a Kim-Pro 8 round stainless mag ($20 at LGS)... all FTF problems went away. The factory magazine is junk; throw it away and go with something better. After those initial problems with the magazine, I had no other failures with the remaining 184 rounds. Accuracy was best with the most expensive ammo (Federal JHP) with frequent 2 inch 8 round groups at 25 feet. At 50 feet (max range at Gander Live range), saw groups stretch out to 3 inches.
My ratings:
Quality=3 stars: took one star away for finish issues and another for the crap magazine included with the R200S.
Value=4 stars: Gave gun 4 stars due to the crappy factory magazine - raising costs from $540 to $560 - still a bargain, but not for someone that is living on a shoe-string.
Notes: This gun has the dreaded Colt 80's series safety system - not a game ender, but will affect trigger pull. Finish on the ambi-safety was very rough on the edges, had to file it down a bit. Slide stop is shiny chrome, has a weird look against the rest of the frame. Trigger broke at 3.5lbs on this particular gun. Sights are nice and sharp. Slide fits frame quite nicely (not too tight, not too lose). Finish on frame and slide are very nice. Thumb safety is a bit "springy" but fine for range work. Barrel bushing fits nicely but looks like crap with that chrome finish. Grips are top notch rubber.
Final suggestions: Not my favorite 1911, but a bargain for someone in the market for an entry level 1911 in stainless. Remember to purchase a good quality mag (or two, or three) when buying this gun. With the cost of basic 1911's exceeding $500, this gun is a bargain.
